Description
The 3 Waterfalls of North Bay
Type: Exploration / Physical / Mental / Meditation
Difficulty: Moderate–Hard
Duration: 1–2 Weeks
Location: North Bay, Ontario
Story Context
North Bay is shaped by water — not only by Lake Nipissing, but by the quieter flows hidden within its forests. Three waterfalls mark the land like natural altars, each holding a distinct kind of energy and presence.
Few Heroes visit all three. Fewer still meditate at both their heights and their bases, listening to how the land breathes. The Council calls upon the Hero to walk this complete path, to witness all three flows, and to deepen their connection to the natural forces that sustain the realm.
Objectives
Step 1: Discover the Three Waterfalls
Locate the three major waterfalls connected to North Bay:
1. Duchesnay Falls
The most accessible and well-known waterfall — a place of renewal, where water flows confidently over layered rock and welcomes those who approach.
2. Eau Claire Gorge / Eau Claire Falls
A moderate journey that requires intention and time. Here, the water cuts deep through rock, echoing the persistence and endurance of the land.
3. The Cedar Heights Trans-Canada Waterfall
The most challenging to reach, a lesser-known waterfall located south of Cedar Heights, near the Trans-Canada Highway. This site requires careful navigation through the forest.
Finding it may include:
- Entering the wooded area south of Cedar Heights
- Walking toward the sound of flowing water running near the Trans-Canada
- Following informal paths created by locals, animals, or erosion
- Staying aware of uneven terrain and natural obstacles
Step 2: Journey and Meditate
Visit each of the three waterfalls and, where safely possible, spend time at both:
- The top — where the water gathers momentum
- The base — where the flow becomes mist, sound, and dispersed energy
At each point, pause to:
- Sit or stand in silence
- Listen to the rhythm and volume of the water
- Notice how the energy feels different at top and bottom
- Reflect on how these changes mirror cycles in your own life
Step 3: Safety and Awareness
These are natural environments. Travel with care:
- Wear proper footwear and be cautious on wet or uneven surfaces
- Watch for roots, loose rocks, and slippery areas
- Be mindful of wildlife common to the region
- Park legally and safely
- Use extra caution when approaching the Cedar Heights Trans-Canada Waterfall, as trails may be informal
- Bring water, a phone, and, if desired, a trusted companion
Step 4: Document Your Journey
Record your experiences with one or more of the following:
- Photos of the waterfalls and surrounding areas
- Written reflections on the energy and feeling at each site
- Sketches or drawings
- A simple map or notes on how you reached each waterfall
When your journey is complete, send your reflections or documentation to the Council at:

Completion
By reaching all three waterfalls, meditating at their tops and bases, and returning safely, the Hero aligns with the elemental flow of North Bay. Each waterfall offers a different teaching — together, they form a living lesson in movement, grounding, release, and awareness.
