The Paths of the Unseen — North Bay
Type: Civic / Social / Mental / Magical
Difficulty: Challenging
Duration: 3–5 Days
Location: Across North Bay — parks, lakeside paths, public spaces, and transitional zones
Story Context
Across North Bay move the Unseen — people who drift between places, whose challenges, hopes,
and struggles often go unnoticed. Some are unhoused, some transient, some simply moving
quietly through the city.
Their presence reveals something about the soul of the city: where compassion flows, where
support is strong, and where old wounds or imbalances remain. The Council calls upon the
Hero not to investigate the people themselves, but the paths they walk, the spaces they rely
on, and the energetic story those places tell.
This quest is about understanding the ecosystem that surrounds North Bay’s unseen populations
— the pressures that shape their journeys, the gaps that create suffering, and the energies
that linger in quiet corners.
Objectives
Step 1: Walk the Paths of the Unseen
Visit areas where transient or wandering people often pass through:
- Near shelters
- Transit hubs
- Lakeside paths
- Parks and public resting places
- Edges between busy areas and quieter zones
Move gently and respectfully. You are observing spaces, not individuals.
Step 2: Listen to the Land
At each location, pause and reflect on the energy:
- Does the place feel heavy or forgotten?
- Safe or unsafe?
- Open or closed-off?
- Welcoming or tense?
Notice access to warmth, shelter, water, or shade; footpaths that show regular use; and
signs of rest, struggle, or transition. Treat each area like a chapter in the city’s story.
Step 3: Listen to Those Who Choose to Speak
If someone naturally initiates conversation or appears open to being approached, you may
gently ask questions such as:
- “What do you need most right now?”
- “What would help people in your situation in this city?”
Only engage if the moment feels respectful, welcomed, and safe. Honour their time and their
dignity. A single sentence may hold more truth than a long interview.
Step 4: Contemplate the Causes, Not Just the Symptoms
In quiet reflection, consider:
- What forces might push people into these spaces?
- What resources seem to be missing?
- Where does the city’s energy feel blocked or forgotten?
- What simple actions or shifts could ease suffering?
Let your heart respond, rather than your ego. This is a quest of insight and compassion.
Step 5: Map the Invisible Story
Create a small visual or written map that includes:
- The locations you visited
- Your emotional or energetic impressions
- Patterns or themes you noticed
- Needs or truths revealed through the spaces
This is a map of the city’s quiet truths, not of specific people.
Completion
By walking the paths of the Unseen with compassion and sensitivity, the Hero learns how
North Bay holds — and sometimes fails — its most vulnerable wanderers. This awareness
brings light to forgotten corners, dignity to overlooked stories, and understanding to the
spaces where suffering hides.
