Description
Guardians of the Flames
Tagline: Tend the fire with care, gather the circle with love.
📜 Quest Summary
Since ancient days, communities gathered around flame to share warmth, story, and song. This quest invites you to host a safe, respectful fire gathering—whether a backyard fire pit, a beach fire where permitted, or a communal hearth—honoring the elements and each other.
Your role as Guardian is simple and sacred: prepare the site, set clear intentions, keep everyone safe, and leave the place cleaner than you found it.
When complete, share a brief reflection (what was meaningful, who you gathered, how you kept it safe) and a photo of the prepared fire site before lighting or of the tidy, extinguished site after. Email to quests@RLLARP.ca with the subject line “Guardians of the Flames.”
🧭 Suggested Steps
- Check rules & risks: Verify local bylaws, burn bans, permits, and weather/wind. Choose an approved fire pit or safe, legal location.
- Prepare the site: Clear a 3–5 m area of dry leaves/brush. Set a nonflammable base (stone ring/metal pit). Stage water (bucket/hose) and a shovel; ideally a Class A extinguisher.
- Gather materials: Dry kindling, small/medium logs. Avoid painted/treated wood and plastics. Bring a metal ash bucket if available.
- Set intention: Invite 1–6 people. Open with a brief intention (gratitude, story-sharing, quiet presence). Establish simple norms: no litter, no horseplay near the fire, Guardian has final say.
- Tend safely: Keep flames modest (knee–shin height). Add wood slowly. Never leave unattended. Mind wind shifts and sparks.
- Close the circle: Drown–stir–drown until cold to the touch. Scatter no ash while hot. Pack out all trash; do a final site sweep.
🎯 Completion Markers
- A legal, safely hosted fire gathering with at least one guest (or a solo vigil if regulations restrict groups).
- Photo of the prepared site (before lighting) or the fully extinguished, clean site after.
- Brief reflection emailed to quests@RLLARP.ca titled “Guardians of the Flames” (what you intended, how you kept it safe, one moment of meaning).
⚠️ Safety & Respect
- Obey all bylaws, burn bans, and park rules. If conditions change (wind/dryness), postpone.
- Keep water, shovel, and an extinguisher within arm’s reach. No aerosols, accelerants, or trash burning.
- Supervise children and pets closely. Maintain a safe perimeter; no running or throwing near flame.
- Extinguish completely: soak, stir, and verify cold. Never depart while embers are warm.
- Consider neighbors: smoke direction, quiet hours, and scent sensitivity.
✨ Purpose
To rekindle community and reverence through mindful stewardship of flame—warming bodies, brightening hearts, and leaving the land better than found.
